LPH-48 is a selective serotonin 5-HT2A receptor agonist and psychedelic hallucinogen which is under development for the treatment of alcoholism.cite-ref-adisinsight-1-2[1]cite-ref-synapse-2-1[2]cite-ref-lophora2024-3-0[3] Its route of administration has not been specified.cite-ref-adisinsight-1-3[1]

The drug acts as a selective agonist of the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor.cite-ref-adisinsight-1-4[1]cite-ref-synapse-2-2[2]cite-ref-lophora2024-3-1[3] It is said to be an analogue of LPH-5 with similar characteristics but with faster metabolism and a shorter duration of action.cite-ref-lophora2024-3-2[3] LPH-5 is a highly selective serotonin 5-HT2A receptor agonist that is under development for major depressive disorder and has shown antidepressant-like effects in animals.cite-ref-rorstedjensensmits2024-4-0[4]cite-ref-adisinsight-lph-5-5-0[5]cite-ref-jensencecchihibicke2024-6-0[6]

LPH-48 is under development by Lophora.cite-ref-adisinsight-1-5[1]cite-ref-synapse-2-3[2] As of May 2024, it is in preclinical research for alcoholism.cite-ref-adisinsight-1-6[1]cite-ref-synapse-2-4[2] The chemical structure of LPH-48 does not yet seem to have been disclosed.cite-ref-adisinsight-1-7[1] However, Lophora has patented selective serotonin 5-HT2A receptor agonists for treatment of depressioncite-ref-jp7566021b2-7-0[7] and the company is said to have patent protection for LPH-48.cite-ref-adisinsight-1-8[1] Additionally, the structure of its close analogue LPH-5 is known and this compound is a phenylpiperidine derivative.cite-ref-rorstedjensensmits2024-4-1[4]

About LPH-48: LPH-48 is a shorter acting direct analog of LPH-5 with similar optimized characteristics and safety profile, but with a shorter duration of action. LPH-48 is designed as a fast-follower that shows significantly faster metabolism, indicating a shorter duration of action in man. LPH-48 is a representative of the same proprietary compound class as LPH-5 and is therefore endowed with the same optimized characteristics including favorable drug-like properties and a safe pharmacological profile.
